Lesson 1 Reflection

For this lesson, I tried to make it student-centered so that they wouldn't get bored. I chose an easy topic that the majority of my classmates already knew so that we could focus more on the activities and to spend less time explaining the concept. I first explained what a fraction is and the parts of it and I took my classmates right away to an activity where they could participate. In the first activity, I gave them a fraction and they had to do a drawing to represent that fraction, I wanted them to do something different instead of just answering questions. I liked that they could complete the activity the way I wanted and that everyone participated. For the assessment, I used Kahoot. I did not know of this website/game until I saw some of my classmates use it. I love this game because students have fun and at the same time, the teacher is able to make conclusions on the students' learning. I think I could have done better by practicing before presenting so that I can time myself, and to get to know the apps I will use because it was the first time I used these two apps ever and I was nervous thinking it was not going to work.

Global Digital Citizen Blog Post

 1. In what learning environments would the technology resource I presented be appropriate?

- Regarding to ReadWriteThink, it would be appropriate for little kids because it has lots of fun interactives were students can be entertained and engaged at the same time. Students are able to work on their chrome books at the same time their teacher is checking on them and viewing the progress. This is a good tool because students can save their work in case they don't have enough time to complete it, so that they don't lose their work. Teachers can see where there students are struggling more and their strengths as well. It is easy to navigate for the teacher and the student.

2. In what learning environments would the technology resource I presented NOT be appropriate?

I think this technology resource may not be appropriate for children to navigate it alone because it may have virus or they may download something they shouldn't. For some of the interactives, flash player needs to be installed and it might not be recommendable. Also, since this is a public website, anyone can post online and students can see other people's comments.

3. How might it be modified to be appropriate?

I highly recommend they modify this website by making it more secure for students and teachers. Also making interactives more easy to download for students to work offline on their own,

ISTE Standards for Educators and Students

For the past two semesters, students and teachers have to meet virtually due to the pandemic. I was able to observe a classroom since this semester started and I realized the importance of technology and how students and teachers take advantage of it. Students are given chrome-books so that they can meet with the teacher and do the activities and I have to say that I was skeptical of this working online since students are very young to understand technology and they need more help from adults, but this class impressed me. The class was given through classroom and google slides and the majority of students had no difficulty on logging in, they all knew what they had to do and where they had to go.

ISTE student standards observed:

  • Empower Learner- Students were able to complete activities and were active during the lesson to achieve their goal.
  • Digital Citizen- Like I mentioned before, students knew exactly what they had to do in every situation, for example if they had a question they had to wait until the teacher sees them raising their hands and that's when they can unmute themselves. They cannot talk without permission because they can interrupt the class. Students also know that they are given with time to eat, and little breaks to do their necessities out of lesson time.
  • Knowledge Constructor- Students learn through the different apps.
  • Creative Communicator- Students were able to choose their own characters in activities where they had fun and learned at the same time.
One thing the teacher could do to meet more of the standards is letting students to discuss with their classmates about a particular subject. The teacher can do breakout rooms for them to work together so that they can learn from each other and also for them to have a little time to talk freely. This would basically meet the seven standard; global collaborator.

ISTE educator standards:

  • Designer- The teacher was good at delivering the lesson. He designed his lesson in a way that could be understandable for all students and accessible.
  • Facilitator- The teacher helps students learn by using technology, and models what students are supposed to do.
  • Analyst- The teacher uses technology to create summative and formative assessment to make sure students meet their goal. He communicates with students regularly to check on them.
  • Leader- The teacher gives students equitable access to learning tools so that he can meet every students' needs. He knows how technology works and navigates perfectly through the different sites.
I believe that the teacher does a great job because he has different tools and ways of teaching, his activities are engaging and students are able to learn online. I can say he meets the majority of the standards, the only thing I would do I if I was him, was to teach students how to be a good collaborator. Students did most of their work alone and it would be better if they had the chance to work in groups.

Technology Resource Project

February 02, 2021

For this activity I used the website ReadWriteThink  because I have heard of it before and I knew it has a lot of useful resources that teachers can use like lesson plans, videos, etc. It is also designed for students because it has interactives that are helpful for them because they are fun and they practice what they learn.

Here is the link to my presentation and the link for the website can be found there as well:

Classroom Observation

I observed a third grade class this semester since my step mother is babysitting two girls and one of them is a third grader. I asked the teacher if I could be present while he delivered the class and he agreed. The teacher used so many tools throughout the class, I did not know some of them and they all were fun. I think it is amazing how technology is making things work in distance and taking care of our health. I observed the majority of ISTE standards and this helped me as a model on how I can use technology in my future classroom. I learned that in order to keep children engaged, teachers have to let them be part of the class, participate, and do fun activities that will make them excited.

First Blog Post

1. Personal Philosophy of Education-

Something that has been always in my mind is that education has a huge impact in the world. By saying "education", I not only refer to school, but to how parents raise their children, how children learn, what makes them be themselves, etc. If we put education before anything else, I am pretty sure we would have a better world. We have the responsibility to teach our children what is right and wrong, that their actions have consequences, that everyone has the same rights and that everyone deserves respect. I believe teachers play an important role in education because they are in charge of preparing children for the future and they are role models for students. I want my students to count on me and to have a good memory of school. I want them to enjoy school, to have fun, to feel safe, and to pursue their dreams.

2. Personal experiences with technology-

I haven't had much experience with technology. When I was in elementary and middle school, technology was not as advanced as it is today. I didn't have to use a computer nor internet to do my homework and social media was still not that famous. Before virtual classes, I only knew how to navigate blackboard, do some word documents and a little bit of slides. Now that we have to meet virtually, I encounter that zoom exists and that there are many apps teachers can use to engage students in learning and to do activities with them at the same time. I think this semester is the one I have learned the most regarding technology because I have been challenged and my teachers and classmates have helped me a lot with examples and advices. I know I still have a lot to learn but I am pretty sure I will and that everything will be beneficial for my future self as a teacher.

3. What technology integration means to me-

To be honest I have never heard of this term before. I can make the assumption that it has to do with using technology for a purpose. Maybe using apps, internet, computers, or other gadgets to perform an activity. Like right now I think we are integrating technology to learn and teach since we are meeting virtually.

4. Technology in my future classroom-

I cannot imagine how advanced technology will be when I get to teach. Technology will be present in every aspect just like it is right now; meetings are virtual, activities are done through apps, teachers and parents have communication via email, calls, text, etc. If we get to meet in person, I think technology will still be important in my classroom because I will show my students videos so that they can understand a concept, I will show them how work can be done using a projector, I will have to print worksheets for them to work, and they will conduct research about a topic. Those are just some examples on how I will use technology in my classroom. Also, teachers obtain their resources from technology and I believe it is very important that teachers and parents are up to date with the new actualizations to give their children quality education.
